QuesterX reviews three StarCraft II mods

At Blizzcon 2010 one of Blizzard’s announcements related to four mods that they were bringing out for StarCraft II. Many, many months later, the beta test models for three of the four mods turned up in the Blizzard map listing. Recently the official, final cuts for three of the mods have been released, replete with achievements and portrait rewards.

User Opinion: Confessions of a StarCraft addict

After a fantastic response to his opinion piece, (The allure of the FPS genre) we let fan fave QuesterX run amuck and expertly break down his Starcraft II experience.

Disclaimer: So some of you would have read my recent article which was an opinion piece on FPS gaming. In the article I stated that, without knowing it, I had become an FPS gamer. I related this to the way in which the new generation of FPS games were reaching out, grabbing me by the scruff of my imagination and shaking me… in a good way. Review: StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (single-player)

I’ve never been, nor have I ever had a desire to be, a Blizzard fanboy. There wasn’t a powerful enough computer in my household to run many of their earlier games, and while I enjoyed Warcraft III, I didn’t finish it; and I certainly didn’t embrace it like many of my PC friends did. I’ve still never really played any of the Diablo games and have vehemently refused to even try World of life-sucking Warcraft. While I played the original StarCraft, I didn’t buy into the subsequent hype. I was, however, impressed by the diversity of the three factions and how balanced they were. Preview: R.U.S.E.

Perhaps the greatest ruse in Ubisoft’s marketing arsenal for the upcoming game R.U.S.E. is the fact that the every.capital.letter.as.its.own.sentence. faux acronym is, as I’ve just given away, not an acronym at all. This is either three-fold genius or just damn lazy – and I’ll let you decide. On one level it makes suckers like me Google what it could possibly stand for, thus delving further and further into various tidbits of information relating to the game. On another, it does follow the lame F.E.A.R. and even, dare I say, S.M.A.R.T. technology of Brink’s path of having an acronym for the sake of having an acronym. The third foreseeable level is the irony of the aforementioned marketing ruse factor of the title itself.
