It can be heart breaking to watch a franchise fall from grace. Alternately, it’s gratifying to watch one claw its way back from the depths. This week rawDLC sit down with Kotaku Australia’s Mark Serrels to discuss the secret ingredients of today’s best-selling franchises. (more…)

That’s why we’re giving you unfettered access to the Trailer Park: a delicious smattering of the best gaming videos from the last seven days. Sometimes to re-establish or make a connection with a franchise you need to find the right angle. I’ve been less than wowed by the last few iterations of Assassin’s Creed (with Revelations the best of the bunch) but stumbled upon some brilliant fan art that helped me find the love again. The fact that these tributes happen to also celebrate the female form has absolutely nothing to do with it. (more…)

As 2011 draws to a close I figured I’d do something a little different with the Trailer Park. It totally has nothing to do with the lack of new video content released this week (fo’ realz). Below is a selection of videos that got me excited, made me giggle like a Japanese schoolgirl or represented a classic rawDLC moment. As you’re smashing yourself into 2012 take a look back at Dave’s hits of 2011. (more…)

After giving those of you who tuned in to the live show a sneak peak of the first video opinion piece “Guilty Pleasure games” out of Studio 33, the guys felt it would be wrong to deprive the rest of the gaming community of something this ridiculously awesome. Josh, Nathan and Dave break down their favourite titles that defy logic and have each of them reaching for the controller just one more time. Nathan fesses up to Assassin’s Creed, Dave unashamedly professes his love for 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Josh chases the dragon with Guitar Hero. (more…)

Among my travels through the interwebsiverse (yep, it’s  word), I stumbled upon this little gem of a mash-up. The industrious chaps at Comicvania.com have taken the best of two worlds (not the poxy game… shudder) and smashed them bad boys together. In the tradition of the classic newspaper comic strip, they’ve used gaming screen grabs as their backgrounds and added a slightly wrong edge to it. It should be of no surprise that it floats my boat, as it should appeal to anyone with a slightly warped sense of humour. The site is in its infancy, launching at the end of last year, but I really dig what I’ve seen so far. (more…)

If you’re like me, you always get the newest console as soon as it’s out. This current generation of gaming started for me the day after Thanksgiving when my Xbox 360 came to my door, finally being delivered from Amazon. Even in its infancy, the 360 provided many classic games. Now that this current gen has just turned five years old, I thought I would reflect on the best franchises of this generation. My list only includes console games as I personally don’t consider handheld games to be current gen. Also, sorry Wii fans but you won’t find a Wii exclusive on my list. I don’t own a Wii so I couldn’t play most, if not all, games from that console. (more…)

The first Assassin’s Creed game copped a lot of flak for its repetitive nature and poorly implemented futuristic elements. Assassin’s Creed II gave the player a lot more variety in the game world, but kinda lost the plot in regards to the… err… plot and had WAY too much time spent in the futuristic section of the game. I loved the original game, warts and all, was seriously underwhelmed by the sequel (especially the final ‘boss’ of the game: lameness personified) but still have some reasonable expectations for the third game; particularly in regards to the sexed-up combat.
