Video: Move over Freddie W and Corridor Digital, Aussie YouTuber Michael Shanks brings local flavour to fan films

timtimfed_michael_shanks_bioshock_infiniteThe influx of cross media collaborations in the games industry not only bodes well for the future, but it’s gratifying to see publishers and developers utilising talented cosplayers and amateur filmmakers as part of marketing campaigns for new releases.

We’ve seen it most recently with Corridor Digital’s Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon live-action short and the appointment of talented cosplayers such as Anna Moleva hitting the promotional front line for BioShock Infinite. Then you’ve got mavericks the likes of Freddie W and his dynamic and a little crazy crew of stunt men and women incorporating Hollywood talent into their gaming inspired YouTube creations and the impact of the high production fan film has never been stronger.

Recently a Melbournian chap by the name of Michael Shanks (as he points out, not to be confused with the dude from the Stargate TV series) has come to our attention with his on the nose and often hilarious takes on gaming’s recent and most loved hits. Not only does he often star in the lead role, but he also directs, edits, handles the special effects wizardry and scores the lot! Without further adieu we bring you his greatest hits via Michael Shank’s YouTube Channel “timtimfed” as he runs through a gamet of gaming tropes that will have you nodding your head in approval and giggling along the way.

We’ll kick off with A Day in the Life of Max Payne

Yep, who doesn’t play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim like this?

… or Dishonored. Well, that’s my interpretation of “stealth” anyway

Ever wonder what would happen in Half-Life’s Gordon Freeman crossed paths with Portal’s Chell in the heat of battle? Now you don’t have to.

The last is a rather irreverent look at the characters from BioShock Infinite in a reality TV show parody “Keeping up with the Comstocks”

The rest of his channel is pure gold so do yourself a favour and check it out. Show your support some homegrown talent, and hey, you may just bust a gut in the process.
