Given the mixed reaction to Assassin’s Creed III, you’d forgive Ubisoft for taking a break to steady the franchise. Instead it surreptitiously launches a raiding party and announces a new addition to the yearly release model. Let’s hope this pirate heavy jaunt won’t need to be keelhauled.

The new protagonist is Edward Kenway, a privateer for the Royal Navywho falls from grace into piracy. Edward is a fierce pirate and seasoned fighter who soon finds himself embroiled in the ancient war between Assassins and Templars. The pirate setting should bring to the fold a colourful cast of characters and hopefully inject some life into the franchise as seen in the screens below,  but we;re taking it all with a grain of salt at this point. C’mon Ubi, take a chance and wow us.
