Review: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

The Lord of the Rings is one of the few franchises that has a decent track record for more good games than awful cash-ins. As Christmas is upon us and most of us are happily smashing through the best games of the year, it is easy to overlook the titles that fall under the 8.5-9 score bracket. One of these titles is The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. Check out my review after the jump.

Every game needs a giant bird button!

War in the North is by no means a bad game, it’s just been released at a hectic time of the year.

“When The Lord of the Rings games show up, those who are not into ‘larping’ or collecting all things Tolkien, warily look to find out which side of the spectrum the new game sits; and, particularly at this time of year, if it stands up to the sea of AAA titles that are currently available.

Thankfully, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North sits on the better side of the franchise’s games. It takes place during the events of the original stories but takes a different path, leaving the game feeling fresh and interesting for those who’ve previously trodden all over Middle Earth. This is always the best way to make a game based on anything with a pre-established lore – with fans hungering for more adventures, a solid result for War In The North means it will be destined to sit next to the best Lord of the Rings titles.”

Sorry Bud, had a look around but it looks like the game will not have any more DLC. Maybe Dragons Dogma will fill the gap in your life.
