Review: Gears of War 3

There’s a palpable sense of excitement surrounding the final installment of the adventures of Marcus Fenix and his battle-hardened muscle bound cohorts. Epic Games has finally delivered on the promise of four-player co-op, significantly beefed up their Horde mode, added a new Beast mode and honed multiplayer down to a fine art. Gears of War 3 is the complete third-person shooter package, especially if you’re inclined to chainsaw internet opponents into itty-bitty chunks or rip their own arm off and beat them to death with it.

Adding sexy ladeez into the mix is a welcome change, as is the actual functioning friendly AI.

“While making my way through the single-player portion, I was a little dubious of what the friendly AI would have to offer, given that most of the time you pray they actually do hit something and spend most of your time wishing you had friendly fire to get the useless bastards disguised as ‘squad mates’ out of your way. That feeling dissipated quickly after the opening volleys were fired. They’ll intelligently use cover, take out enemies and will even execute downed Locusts. Artificial Intelligence? The hell you say! ”
