News: Saints Row: The Third announced… gamers rejoice

What a bumper week it has been. In the words of Charlie Sheen, gamers are “WINNING!” Check them off. Beyond Good & Evil HD hits XBLA arcade, gameplay emerges for both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Battlefield 3 and now this happens. That’s right campers, the Third Street Saints are back bigger and badder than ever! I’ve always preferred the ridiculous antics of the Saints Row franchise over the last few Grand Theft Auto offerings. Volition know how to bring the craziest, most insane action around, if you have any doubt look at their spokesman for Saints Row 2 and tell me they ain’t got a few screws loose.

While details remain as scarce as a sober Irishman, we can tell you this. Than maniacal machine gun wielding maestro Johnny Gat is back, and the Saints have gone commercial. But enough of my yammering, I’ll let THQ break it down.

“Saints Row: The Third puts you on top of the world, right at the beginning of the game, with all the perks that go along with being the head of an elite criminal organization. There’s no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm.” – Danny Bilson, THQ Executive Vice President.

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you. The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to a new city, playing out the most outlandish gameplay scenarios ever seen.

Bold words, but in my opinion Volition always backs it up. Bring it!
